Yerba mate and tribal beats in San Marcos, Texas
This is where I went in to take off my clothes. Sticky icky business clothes and put on suitable yoga pants. The color caught my eye first. I was headed down Ranch Road 12 out to Houston, and sweaty. The greenlight dangled above the street, bouncing on electric wires, where I turned left, a bit of pink catching the corner of my eye. Everyone drove Fords, and I was wearing linen and heels. If you’re stuck in Texas, you go where it says Tantra and it says Coffee, and you take off your clothes.
A boy in a fedora served me yerba mate, I skimmed through a poster for what might be the only “Tribal Night” in Texas. A couple Go Raw bars and Guayaki Mate kept me powered all the way through the long flat drive east, where you pass through towns called Flatonia. No kidding.
The scenery wasn’t just like home, but the food was. What a find.
